Six Feet
Oh here we go again, just two
Friends on the phone again,
1,000 pixels of you until
I’m alone again, you know it’s been
A few months since I
Left home again, so
Here we go again
With our white picket tears
And our silver platter fears of the unknown
But hey at least we’re six feet apart and not
Six feet under, and through the
Ups and downs I really start to remember
How we dreamed of the stage
Til’ we missed the caress of
The spotlight and the rush of the front page
But now those dreams, they’ve shut down
As pain desecrates the town, and we just
Sit waiting to drown, so now I know that
All those shining lights are just
Supposed to be grand, cuz I could
Do without those neon lies but life would be bland if
I could never again put your hand in
My hand just to tell you
I’ll be there till the end, but
So many months gone and it's still so new, how
I wish I could just come and see you, so
Right now a video call will have to do cuz’
The whole world is a graveyard
Around me and you
Maybe it’s scary to suddenly be so alone, but
If fear can keep us from a garden of stones
Then I’m not afraid of being chained at home
When we’re not six feet apart I can’t wait
To laugh like we used to and I know
In my heart that we’ll make it through to
The time when we can sing and dance together, but
For now I’ll take the stormy weather, cuz even
If it storms a lot, and we get lost in the thunder,
Six feet apart from you
Beats six feet under.

I wrote this poem for my creative writing class, but I had had the idea beforehand to write a poem about the pandemic and how it's even affecting introverted people like me.
