In Battle
Two armies poised at the ready,
Axes and swords heald high,
The horses steady.
For most the end is nigh.
The battlefield is quiet,
Checkered with fear.
Everyone awaits the fight,
The first move is near.
The deed is done,
The clash,
The battle’s begun,
Calls and moves are rash.
“Protect the king!” They yell.
The infantry’s slain,
The knights fell.
The monarch’s must be insane!
To put all these subject in pain!
The dead are buried,
The living worse off,
The king carried,
By his loyal squad.
The day is done.
The battle won.
A brutal, disgusting mess,
All hidden away in the game of chess.
