The Brink of Adulthood
The moment I turn 17,
The first thing I am told,
Is that I’m almost a legal adult,
And I am R-rated movies years old.
Another thing I hear,
Is “Congrats! Now you can drive!”
Some major turning points in my life,
Did just arrive.
These new responsibilities are good,
Or so that’s what I am told,
But now so many huge moments in my life,
Are about to unfold.
The process of applying for college,
Taking standardized tests,
Bring with them panic, fear, angst,
And a plethora of stress.
One more year of High School,
Just like that, we are free
To face the world without our parents,
I can already feel the anxiety.
People say they want to get out of High School
As quick as they can,
To go on long road trips,
To travel to distant lands.
After all who wants High School to last forever?
This seems like a welcome time,
But this turning point also means,
We must now leave our pasts behind.
