Anesthesia
I didn’t
realize how
painful it was
until after.
I was oblivious
to my brick barriers
I built
around myself
enabling passage of
potential piercing
laughs or
comforting clasps of
tenderness.
I was numbed
by the anesthesia
that death offers
following loss
to help with the
desolation
pain and
shock it causes
but
the injection only
lasts so
long.
Afterward I was
left to tolerate the
grueling pain
all by myself.
