Purple
Is this where we stand?
Confined to a label of submission or of power,
Expected to be dressed up like a doll or like a soldier,
Forced to paint our faces or to mask ourselves like actors,
Dressing how they want so they don’t take away our anger and our freedom.
Our identity.
What are you?
Pink or blue?
Pink or blue?
What are you?
Children of chance,
Born not of a choice
But a chance.
What are you?
Pink or blue?
Pink or blue?
Purple.
Purple is my color.
Purple is the color of my world,
Of me.
So let me be a soldier and a father and a brother,
And let me be a princess and a sister and a mother,
And let me choose between the pink and blue
So I can no longer be labeled by you.
Pink and blue.
Pink and blue.
