botany and safety MAG
green garden, bursting
flowers from cracks in cement and floating moss,
the trees hang low over our heads, heavy reminder
of things once long ago forgotten
curl under a tree (just because it fits your body perfectly) leave with branches caught in hair
reds and oranges yellows and pinks
flowers growing from your lungs and spilling from your throat
tangled mess of beauty from mouths stained
with chlorophyll
this is simple, wind and fog swirling by cheeks
quiet hum of living things
the girl on the fountain is kind, she smiles
she hands you a coin to wish
when you close your eyes and toss, she takes
your hand
leads you into the maze
flowers bloom in her hair and her eyes are green as grass
she smiles out a lily
the geese honk and the fish make their way through the pond
the coins vanish in the fountain’s blue surface
the plants grow haphazardly and force their way out of impossible places into day
you stand in the mess of life, thriving
the girl is laughing
you find a home.
