One Night
I still can't fall asleep without a blankey
Even if it's hot, I need to be tucked
Even if I'm tucking myself
Security blanket- keep me safe
I can't fall asleep without my teddy bear
He feels like a soft, warm hug
I still need a hug to fall asleep
Teddy bear is the closest thing to a hug
I'll ever get
I still can't fall asleep without a "night light"
Still afraid of the monsters that may be lurking
Afraid of the very literal monster of a man
Asleep in the next room
Maybe one night I'll fall asleep without a blankey
Maybe one night I won't think to grab my teddy
Maybe one night I'll fall asleep with the light off
But that night isn't tonight
Not here, not in this house

At seven, they tried to get me to sleep with a night light, but I demanded a full overhead bulb. At seventeen, I need a lamp. Maybe when I'm twenty-seven, I'll be content with a night light.
