A Bond They Cannot Understand
Is it weird I asked
That when I can't fall asleep
I imagine you here with me?
No he replied
I do the same
With you
I smiled
And reflected for a moment
On how close we'd become
He laid on my stomach
And I ran my fingers through his hair
While we talked of nothing
And everything all at once
People assumed there must be something
Going on between us
Incapable of conceiving the idea
Of people being so bonded
Without romantic feelings
But I was not his love
And he was not mine
We just filled the void we both felt
Friends with only
The benefit of each other's company
He made me laugh
And I kept him safe
That was all
But enough
For the loves we could not have
