Stupid
I roam this world on stilts made from my ego,
But is it really my own?
My name glorified to the point I’m believing my own hype,
Bolstered to a height I might not be ready to reach,
Mainly because I find it hard to practice what others preached,
“You’re going to college, right?” I get that a lot,
I always say yes, but am I answering for myself?
Or am I aiming to satisfy others?
It’s just, I don’t want to let down my parent or my teachers,
But where does my motivation come from when my #1 fan isn’t in the bleachers,
For so long I’ve let the weight of their words affect the weight of my world,
Now I fade into the outskirts of my self, in order to find my center,
Where I must collect the pieces of my potential like an easter egg hunt,
Alas I’m no energizer bunny and I have to rest,
Except I rest so often I never get to put my mind to the test,
“School isn’t for everyone,” I understand this with every passing day,
If everyone is different, why do we receive the same work,
He couldn’t do a math problem so we all laugh,
But give him a pencil and he can draw a runner with strong calves,
Pass the pencil to me and maybe I'll be recognized for taking the untraveled path,
"Kids your age," I know kids my age that make money by streaming games,
Apparently that's not impressive without the collateral of good grades,
School easily finds ways to render you clueless,
Like a fish that's judged by its ability to climb trees, I sometimes feel...
