Linger
How different you are now
I used to know the curve of your body
Like the back of my hand
But all I see now is your small goatee
Olive licked skin and strong arms
You are grown now
A summer away from me has proven that
And it kills me
Buries me under sheets of steel
To know that you still see
Under my clothes
When your eyes graze over me
Below the scars and bruises
You know exactly what’s there
All my vulnerabilities are yours
How unbearably the same I am now
You still know the curve of my body
Like the back of your hand
My pin straight hair and doting green eyes
I have not exited my rut
Thoughts of you still linger
Those of which you have long forgotten
A summer without of you has dug me deeper
My wounds are now scabbed over
But are peeled away by your presence
You (meanwhile)
have replaced
The pieces of yourself I took from you
But you have left me with something much worse
A lingering memory, the scent of your clothes
Embedded in my skin
And now;
I am nothing but those pieces of you
Strung together
Yet again.
