Here I am;
There you are.
I stand,
waiting,
silently in the shadows.
You smile so bright,
like hope for a lost child.
Your radiance outshines me into
the darkness where I belong.
I watch as you leave me.
Moving on with your life.
You will forget me, soon enough.
For you were “light”, the “sun”,
and I was merely your shadow.
There for you when you needed me.
Maybe someday, you will look up,
half conscious,
and think “Isn't there something missing?”
And I will stand,
waiting,
silently in the shadows.

The author's comments:
I was thinking about people who don't have any friends and are too shy to make any. They are taken advantage of by others because of this.
