my father’s wristwatch always counted
twelve hours and i never realized
that the hands stuttered at three
for seven months straight and
eventually came to a full stop
when my i told him that i had
found my mother sleeping
somewhere other than in
their bed; at least i can say
that i loved her enough
to identify her body
