Dreaming about Dreams to Come

Under a large fluff of cloth,
resting my head on a cloud,
kick my feet up on the soft down,
hands resting by my sides
close my eyes in hopefulness
and wait for something to come.

To sleep, perchance to Dream,

All I can see is black,
and all I can think is dark,
all I can feel is devoid of light,
until finally, I shut down.

Ay, there's the rub,

My breathing ceases to be heard,
and I am suffocated by the bed,
the pale ever-last moon hangs overhead
to cast a light on my pale face.
Soft material surrounds me,
burying life in sleep.

For in that sleep of death,

Visions prickle my eyes,
seeping color from the world outside,
like a hot burning sun in my mind,
feels so real that it is another life
trapped in the fabric of my dream.

what dreams may come,

And I wake up, not disappointed,
but very, very, happy,
because in those hours of sleep,
I have lived another life.

The author's comments:
My Creative Writing teacher proposed a writing exercise that interjected a poem with works from another poem or song. The lines I used are from Hamlet (III, i, 65-68) by William Shakespeare. I was fascinated by these lines, and decided to make the poems about dreams.
