Apollo and Daphne
Running to escape a love she doesn’t want
One that would take away her own independence
None happier can she be without her bow and arrows
So she runs through her forest of new despair
The god of the sun sees nothing but her
She is a light brighter than his own
Why she must run away so quickly from him
Apollo never will have known
But closer he gets to his young, fair maiden
As she desperately falls down to the ground and weeps
Crying out to her father to save her from this man
Daphne is turned into but a laurel tree
Apollo seeing his love transformed, breaks
His heart shattered to the ground
Slowly he takes some leaves from the tree
And gives himself the victory of a crown
