A glimpse, a flutter of your presence
Rippling endlessly through my dreams
Your reflection upon the waves, so clear
So near within reach, beckoning me
As my heart reaches towards you, yearning
Towards the perfect image etched in fantasy
In self-comforting imagination
And idealization of what could be
A dull chill freezes the water over
Layers upon layers of ice
Cracking and splintering
Slivers of reality fracturing your reflection
And so I draw back.
With a sense of relief
Avoiding what could have been
A disaster, destroying my peace
The cautious comfort I enclose myself in
And so I retreat.
The waves in my heart melted
Reflecting once again the images
Too beautiful to be true
