I learned a long time ago
that there’s nobody up there
pulling me by puppetstrings
through a lifetime of abuse,
no one to blame for the
slurs and curses that
ask kindly for my suicide.
This body isn’t a temple.
It’s a cage. A prison.
We are so much more
than a sum of our parts
and the seams of our
anatomy can barely
contain us. We’re star-
dust, don’t you see! We
were never meant for such
mortal realms as these.
