A Personification of Sadness
A creature is lurking in the shadows.
It’s unlike any other.
There’s a darkness that envelops its every move;
A blackness that swarms its skin.
It’s hazy, like fog layering the ground.
It’s only one step behind me.
Moving like the wind;
Whispering gentle words of sorrow,
Ever so slowly crumbling the walls of my soul.
Smirking and sneering as they tumble.
It extends its ragged talons.
They’re piercing, like daggers.
As they wrap gratingly around my still beating heart,
The darkness will surround me like a warm blanket.
At first, it’s comforting,
Like an embrace of care.
Then it’s suffocating,
Choking the insipid air from my lungs.
Crushing my heart,
My mind,
My soul.
