A Tribute To Anne Frank: We Live

We live
Between the walls
Suffocated.
Eight books
Crammed onto an overcrowded shelf.

We live
Under the crack in the window frame
Watching.
Breathing.
Listening.

We live
In war.
Outside.
Inside.
In the spaces between us.
In the spaces within us.
Painfully
Watching the world
Fall
All around us.

We live
In the light of the future
Hurricane of the present
Sweet memory of the past.

We live
Envied by the suffering.
Hated by the tyranny.
Blessed by the kindhearted.

We live
In death itself.
Waiting
To capture us
In its tight grip.

We live
In the secret annex
Eight lives.
Eight dreams.
Eight books
Crammed onto an overcrowded shelf.

The author's comments:
We were writing essays in class about Anne Frank after reading the play, so I decided to write a little poetry.

Thanks! I want to put it under my username, but I can't figure out how to change it back.

I love this poem! It's deep, and you can feel the emotion from the time Anne and the others were actually in hiding.  Good job! :)
