El Diablo
Why can't I remember?
I only catch glimpses of you,
Deep in my mind's eye
A smile as you throw the ball
Reaching down to pet the dog
Grabbing the hulahoop from my hands
Laughing
Standing amongst your Jeff Gordon gear, your fascination
Eating watermelon
Wearing a golden crown
Sticking down foam,
Images of dragons and princes and princesses
What happened to all that?
Where did it go?
What did I do to lose it?
There must be a devil, I think
How else can happiness disappear?
How else can memories fly away,
If they haven't help?
I would have done anything
Just to make you stay
To keep those pink slippers
The feeling of being a princess,
Of one day growing into a queen.
Sure, Fate took you.
But I want you back.
El Diablo may have the past,
For I will have the future, the present
I will find you,
Find what I had,
And I'll never be so stupid
As to let it go again.
