the helpless child
Small curly haired
Brown eyed girl
Screaming
Naive to the world
There’s No stopping her
Countless medical visits
Remembrance
Cold floors
The bright yellow rooms lined
With animal alphabet trim
Metal scales and sinks
Scared of the dark canvas ahead of her
She lies on the cold table
With a weight
Lying on top of her
Sunglasses
She stays still
A big
Flash
A seven pound tumor
Appears
Excruciating thoughts
Pain
Apologies to the family
Worried mommy and daddy
Tears fill their eyes
Her sister
Understands yet is helpless
Countless dreams
Slipping away
Scars overpower her smiles
The child "stronger" than she seems
As she grows
So does her anger
She wonders "why me?"
She's no longer that fighter
Weakness overpowers her strength
We wonder what happened to her
Who is she?
She lets life's losses overcome happiness
