An Exchange of Condolences
Early morning mist
Has never felt like this
A gloom worn across the yard
Makes us yearn for the stars
Wet grass sits at our feet
The key here is to be discreet
Nod and wear a sad smile
Exchange condolences for a while
But why?
Why wear a mask?
When nothing lasts
Especially this
Suits giving out handshakes
With a clasp of the wrist
If I shouted would I be out of line?
Would they drag me away?
If we’re being honest
This day will be the longest
I’ve had in some time
Sorrow and Formality
Should never intertwine
