The Empty Promise
Forever isn’t as long as it used to be
Otherwise you wouldn’t be gone
It must have gotten cut short
Otherwise I wouldn’t be alone
Maybe to you forever
Only meant a couple of years
And maybe when you said it
You never thought I’d be left in tears
Perhaps if your forever
Wasn’t sincere, just a trivial boast
The thing is when you said it, you meant it
And that’s what hurts the most
I guess forever is just an empty promise
A vow said but never kept
Because I thought forever meant eternity
But for an eternity I just wept
Well, maybe our forever was never meant to be
You just had me convinced it was somehow
And since I’ve come to terms with that
I can find my real forever now
