Society Walks
People, they surround me. Breathing the same air, walking on the same earth. Words slip from their mouths with ease, as they worship their Gods that promise immortality.
All the while I sit and watch, unsure what to do.
Do I join the throngs of the masses? Should I become another marionette played by the hands of society?
I look around at the glazed eyes, and a muddied pity swells up in my soul.
It shouldn’t be like this.
All wanting to be kings yet searching in the same ways.
I see the hole in our hearts. It’s invisible to many, but it still devours us until there is nothing but our shallow empty bodies left. Wicked, and always yearning.
Yearning for what? Happiness? Contentment? Love?
I open my eyes again and make my decision.
I will walk away and not look back at this thoughtless society. I will crash through the barriers of assumptions and move onward. I will live the life I choose, and not the search the life I want.
People surround me, breathing the same air.
But I am exhaling something different.
