Where I am From
I am from where the sunlight shines
Through the trees at sunrise
And where the sound of the crickets
Lulls me to sleep at night.
I’m from the wooded lands where the deer frolic
And the hummingbirds rapidly flutter all day
Like tigers prancing on their prey.
I am from golfers to artists,
A competitive nature to a caring one.
I am from Venice’s canals to the Starbucks in my town.
I’m from my iced, tall, caramel macchiato with its caramel drizzle on top,
The drink that I look forward to every morning before I go to school.
I’m from cuddly Winnie the Pooh to Elmo’s World,
To Scooby-Doo’s Mystery Machine to Aladdin’s magic carpet.
From Sweetie to Sabina,
From Chica to Squirt.
I am from the long hours of golf practice on the range,
To the fast-paced game of soccer, SCOOOOORE!
From being wowed by the crowds clapping.
I’m from the uniqueness of my photography,
To the eye-popping sketches of graffiti in my sketchbook.
I’m from the nights of reading Agatha Christie books
Along with Hercule Poirot, desperately trying to figure out whodunit.
I’m from the captivating Murder on the Orient Express to Death on the Nile.
I am from my ancestors’ delicious Greek pastitsio,
To their famous, honey-dripped Baklava.
From the yummy New York City bagels,
To the ghostly candy corn!
I’m from Rat-A-Tat-Cat to Play Nine,
From scattergories to strategic backgammon games.
I am from the movie The Fighter,
To the saying “Never give up.”
I’m from the quote: “Fall seven times, stand up eight.”-Japanese Proverb
From the desire to make a change,
I am striving to succeed.
