Dancing Alone
I dance all alone
Arms stretched out to empty air, I twirl
A silent ballroom
A lonely street
A quiet stage, all alone I dance
My feet hit the floor
The sound guides me through the steps
My own little beat
For my legs to follow
People clap, ladies cheer, gentlemen sigh as I whirl by
All alone to the music in my veins
The music in my heart
I can hear the rhythm now
Pulsing in the stricken air
Like sweet poison it slips into my ears and I welcome it
It tastes like the color red
The drums pounding in my head
The only eyes upon me
Are my own
Watch my arm pale as blood
Snick through the dark like a deadly knife
The music caresses my skin
Pulling me in
My secret lover, now hold me in your arms
Rock me into tomorrow
Guide my steps into a waltz unseen before
The kind that magic only knows
Men in white swirl by
Holding ladies all in blue by the waists
The ladies skirts cover the dainty steps they take
Hiding them from the eye they seem to float by
The men’s strong strides shrouded all in clouds
Holding them down like an anchor
Lest they float away
They dance away fading into the night
A faint tinkle of bells the only trace left behind
That they were really there at all
That they weren’t only in my mind
I keep dancing, keep whirling, keep on my toes
As the music goes round and round
Spiraling across the frozen ground
Leaves rain down painting shadows on my face but I don’t stop
I don’t stop at all
The world is dead nothing living is watching me
So I dance
I dance
Until my feet begin to bleed cherry blossoms
