My Once Beloved Friend
Sun seeps onto the windowsill
Bringing with him an old friend
She creeps up beside me
Letting me think of her better days
Never saying a word to sway me
I am delighted to have a friend
Long into the night we stare
Right into each other’s faces
I fall asleep and soak up her dreams
We are best friends by night fall
It is morning and my brother rushes in
He sees her and rushes
Always rushing
To get a napkin
My eyes are closed still
Enchanted by dreams
But I feel her loss
He leaves the door open and in the sunlight
I hear him bragging about the death
Of my one and only friend
