Dow the Drain
A piece of paper is stuck to the sidewalk,
Clinging on for dear life as the water rushes,
Grabbing at its edges,
To try and pull it down the cavernous drain.
The streetlamp illuminates this battle for life or death,
Reflecting against the puddle,
Until it is intercepted by my shadow.
I look at the piece of paper,
Seeing my struggles,
Because the paper isn’t very far off from where I am.
I pick up the soggy piece and take it home,
Keep it safe.
If only there was someone like that for me,
To save me like that.
To save me from those people who rush by me,
Grabbing at my emotions,
Trying to pull me down with their hopeless struggles,
Down the drain.
