Weekend At the Beach With Dad
"Everything's alive out here,"
She says as Daddy combs her hair
He tries to detangle it
And he tries to braid it
But he cannot do it
Because it's still filled with ocean
With crabs and fish
Maybe even seahorses
Maybe dolphins
And the wind, the wind,
Is still in her hair
And the waves, the waves,
Are everywhere
"Everything's alive out here,"
She says again
Including them
Father and daughter
Man and child
But as they laugh and laugh
And the days roll by
They are more than that
They are very best friends
