Know that I am Waiting
When the night descends
In a shroud around your dusty house
Pressing itself against the fragile glass of
Your hasty windows
Know that I am waiting.
When the rains begins to trickle down
Out of its lazy cradle of clouds
Tossing into a torrent
Staccato kettle drum on your tin roof
I am waiting.
When the lightning first flashes
An unearthly reel of glittering pinpoints
On the edges of your vision
Shards of eternity that rend the earth
There too I am waiting.
When the flood flashes down your chimney
And the malevolent night slips through the cracks in your floor
When the fire presses at the tiles of your roof
Until all that you can hear is the pounding of your heart
Know that I am waiting.
Open the door.
Let.
Me.
In.
