Auction Day
Creator at the auction stand
Took a deep breath
On the sixth day
Surveyed the crowd
Creatures of the air and sea and land
But who will buy the earth?
Newly made and glorious
Soaring peaks and sloping valleys
Lord made his first demand
Who’s going to take it?
Look at these gorgeous pure oceans
Endless verdant forests
Then the crowd he scanned
For a likely buyer
Fox or whale or eagle
Who will buy the earth?
But the bidding kept on going, unlike He had planned
And in the back
There was a figure
Darker than the shadows
Who would always raise his hand
The Creator stifled a yawn
Feeling like it was time
For the seventh day
So He said let’s all disband
He shouted
The Earth-who wants it?
Going, going, gone
And now who takes the Earth under his command?
Not fox nor whale
Nor eagle
No
It’s man.
