I was Small
When I was small
And the world was bright and shiny
A new penny in my hands
I was a fish
Swimming in the ice cold water until the breath left my lungs
My toes would squish in the soft wet mud
I was a bird
I owned and shared the heavens and all the glossy golden light
That dripped between the clouds
I was an adventurer
Exploring the lands where creatures slithered
Living peacefully among the waist high grass
I was a king
The bunk-bed I shared with a ghost was my thrown
It would have been shared with the brother never met
I was me
I knew who I was and who I wanted to be to be
Every cell of me was truly mine
