Remember When
Whatever happened to,
“I look up to mommy”
and, “My daddy is my hero?”
When snorting only happened when
you were laughing to hard you cried.
When boys were gross and annoying
and had cooties.
When life wasn’t a popularity contest
and what brand you wore didn’t matter.
When you only played mommy and daddy,
you didn’t become them.
When the worst thing you could do was
push someone down on the playground.
When we occupied our time with Barbies,
not MySpace, Formspring, Twitter, and YouTube.
Whatever happened to,
“I look up to mommy”
and, “My daddy is my hero?”
