I watch,
a stranger,
as day-by-day
your composure shatters,
as that affection
shared in years past
fades into despair;

Empty vacant eyes

looking out upon
the world with
the slanted vies
of your life and
the restraints
to which you resign;

Caged and numb
to their treachery,
you lack the will
to fight back
these demons,
and in the end,
this fear of death,
this aversion to the
simple truth,
will be your downfall,
and I,
as a stranger,
shall watch you fall
