anger
a letter that came in the mail
a photograph that ruined my day
a siren song of love and peace and all the beautiful things i’ve never known
beyond the sadness, pain, and heartbreak, there is anger.
an endless enumeration of rhetorical questions: why this? why him? why me?
anger, so callously coupled with every other emotion (sadness, pain, heartbreak) stemming from all things deceivingly perfect that went horribly wrong, sets everything in my mind on fire.
but i don’t have the luxury of entertaining anger.
i have so much to do and so many people to prove wrong.
so i burn the letter that came today and watch the ashes rise
i repost the photo with an unseen strained smile
and i sing along to that siren song, choosing to forget about all the beautiful things i will never ever know
