I Don't Fear the Fall
I want to fly like Icarus flew
far enough the sun remembers you
with wings strapped to your back that can't take the fall
I want to answer death's lonely call
I want to fall like Icarus fell
to plummet until you're only broken bones in hell
to fall so far you can never find your way back
so fast your wings burn off of your bare back
I want to die in the ugliest way
to let my words rot and wither, decay
to leave unfinished sentences abandoned by my pen
incomplete love letters that'll never be sent
I want the world to mourn another dead poet
mumbles of pity "so young, so tragic"
flowers left for the boy who died too soon
who finally went to visit the stars and the moon
I want to be free, unchained by life
I want to feel more than sorrow and strife
I want to surge the tides and rattle the ground
to tell the universe I ain't backing down
