I Am Shamed

If I speak poorly, I am shamed
If my skin is not fair, I am shamed
If my hair is different, I am shamed
If I talk with slang, I am shamed
I am shamed now
and I will be shamed forever
As shame is not an insolent word
Shame is not a lack of respect
In fact, shame is a sign of inspiration
For you and I to slip away
and break the chains of shame
