if every word on the page stands out, does this stand out because it doesn’t?

If every person around me stands out, what do I do if I don’t?

The boy had worn every face except for what he once called his own, 

Torn off and stitched onto his cranium like 

A game of charades, a guessing game between

him and himself until wrong guesses crumbled like pebbles

falling to clawed wooden pavement 

Like a unstable Jenga tower, every block unraveled and disposed

Until one player makes it collapse & everyone laughs because

They f*cked up and the pieces are thrown back into the box until the next group comes along.

There is a fake smile  |  There is a fake smile  |  Once was a fake smile

Masking off her spite  |  It’s glued tight, still,  |  But now, no more, is he expected to grin
