thunderous roars of might
ricocheted off the dusky sky-
out of the cabin windows
herds of clouds rampaged in sprightly play

before my eyes,
yesteryear's farewell tears
now brushed to the side,
a longing new smile took its place

uncontrollable thoughts
trickled as loose paint down,
letting the wind's chime go
unheard in my throat

a new journey unfolds
itself as an onion delayered-
bringing discomfort,
but also delight

within my fists
clenched pieces of my homeland,
etching their place
in alcoves of callus

as the spirited sun
performed its daily stretch,
crescent moons upon my fingers
greeted the new day
