When They Paint the Roses Red
A beautiful bud
As white as snow
New to the world
So long ago
Her small little garden
Protects her from the rest
She longed to get out
If only she knew what they would test
Stay safe while you can
She was warned by many
You are safe and protected
And your garden has plenty
Yet despite their cautions
She grew curiouser by the day
Then she did the unthinkable
And ran far away
She climbed the garden wall
And was intrigued by what she saw
For the land beyond her garden
Appeared to have no flaw
Her innocence hid the truth
That the world isnt what it seems
And unfortunately for her
The only thing good would be her dreams
The lavish land before her
Was a mirage hiding the horror
We should pray for the little rose
For nothing there could restore her
Walking through the land
She soon felt tired and sad
For the land she once carved to see
Was taking everything she had
Her spirit was crushed
And her heart was torn
She now longed for the place
At which she was born
Her little garden
That was small yet safe
And she laughed at the thought
Of once being encased
Her garden never hurt her
Never caused her to be lost
Thinking back she never knew
How much her freedom would cost
Now looking at her petals
Which once were white as snow
They now bleed red and she never thought
How much she would miss their glow
