When someone you love dies
When you find out that your loved one has passed away,
All you do is just stand there in complete shock,
The tears come, flowing like waterfalls from your eyes,
Because you realize, that their not coming back,
And they never, ever will.
You never even got to say goodbye
The last time you saw them was months before they died,
You knew they weren’t doing very well,
Each time you wanted to see them,
It just wasn’t possible
At the time, you didn’t think much of it,
You’d just see them next time.
But you never did.
You weren’t even there with them for their last Christmas,
Never got to see them open their present,
It was kind of silly, it was a candy board game,
The game was Scrabble, your favorite game to play with them,
You were so excited to play with them.
Now they won’t be there to play the game,
I just wish I could have picked up the phone,
To call them, tell them how much I loved them,
You realize you never knew how much you loved them,
Cared about them and needed them,
Until they were gone.
They won’t be there to celebrate holidays with you
Won’t ever see you graduate,
And watch you walk across that stage
Or, be there at your wedding,
On your very special day
Still, it actually never occurred to you,
That this could happen to this person,
Who was the strongest, most kindest person that you knew,
And will ever know, all of your life
The only thing that your saying in your head, over, and over,
Is “How could God take him from us?”

This poem, When someone you love dies was written about my amazing grandfather who passed away January 2021. I wrote this poem while greieving and I decided to share it with the world. I also wanted to see if anyone could relate to this poem.
