War on Pitch
Sun squeaks through the cracks of a dark sky,
as the mushy mud builds on the sole of every step.
Repellent raindrops hit my teammates and I in the face as we fly forward–
searching for a victory. A challenge we must overcome–
a war we must win.
Commanding the troops from the back of the field as the team fights their battle.
Telling them to retreat as the enemy push forward,
as they pierce through my last defense, I am forced to defend for myself–
as the enemy attempts to strike at me my natural instinct allows me to lounge to the side.
Protecting myself and the team, turning the tables back into our favor.
When commanded forward, we listened.
We pushed with power and pace–
not even a brick wall could stop us.
Finishing with a finesse that could not be foreseen.
We have won this battle, but not the war.
Fighting our hardest and working to the limit, we try to keep this fight in our position.
The rain continued to pour down upon us, as if golf balls were falling from the sky.
After 90 minutes of continuous back-and-forth battling it finally ended.
Everyone hustling to one another to celebrate as one team over the victory.
As a team we thank all our supports for staying with us.
On the field it lets us take a break from reality and all our issues.
We get to come together not as a team but as a family.
We grow of each others' mistakes and work to push one another to make each other better.
Taking in the energy from the sun, watching the breeze blow the grass, like waves in the ocean.
This is our team, our family, and our earth, this is soccer.
