BANG! Goes the gun

I stand paralyzed in fear

Someone grabs me and pulls me into the classroom

But not fast enough

The shooter stares before pulling the trigger

His eyes full of hatred

The bullet whizzes toward me and hits me in the chest

More bullets fly toward me

There’s so much pain that it’s numb

A thought washes over me like a wave

The pain is gone

I’m in a different world with no guns and it’s the same day

I’m walking the same hallway and nothing happens

I keep walking toward my future

The thought fizzles out like tide receding

BANG! Pain stabs me like a knife

My breathing gets rough like choppy waters

What did I do to deserve this?

My eyes flutter and close

I see my past and future all at once

My dreams are shattered

The future I wanted is in pieces like the window he came through

My last breath is like a bullet

Fast, rushed, and not thought through

The funny thing is

That’s what killed me…

---

BANG! Goes the gun

She pulled the trigger to stop the pain

Her eyes glaze over

Blood flows down her head

Her body slumps to the floor

Her parents stand paralyzed in fear at the doorway

She pulled the trigger stop the bullying

She was bullied because she kissed a girl

Now she’s gone

She won’t know it, but a few months later

The girl she kissed pulled the trigger too

---

BANG! Goes the gavel

The court decided to prove him not guilty

Even though the blood was on his hands

He was apparently “mentally unstable”

He chose to kill 17 students and teachers on impulse

Just because he had a gun

“Lying around”

---

BANG! Goes the gavel

He’s guilty

For taking black money

From the NRA

The money he took

Was worth

The lives of

17 students and teachers lives

But he didn’t mind

That the blood was on his hands
