Escape
"Escape" he told me
"I need to escape"
At fifteen, life has already taken him captive
Haze has become his reality
A breath of chemicals in exchange for a moment of freedom
A moment that ends so soon
"I need to be cool
I need to fit in"
Popularity is the currency of youth
Mold yourself, cut bits off
Doesn't matter
Trade your future for right now
Did we ever plan on living past eighteen
"It's just for fun
Calm down, it's not a big deal"
But I have never been good at keeping calm
I'll scream about the follies of youth until my youth is gone
We make mountains into molehills
And put it off another day
We make molehills into mountains
And waste our energy
We all find our own escapes
Nicotine, alcohol, yellow paint
Is building a comfortable life so impossible?
I want a life I don't have to escape from
I want that for you too
