My Three Ghosts
One.
youngling standing in the cemetery today,
with old eyes
and a crushed soul,
no one recognizes,
no one sees
the lone warrior
the last survivor
the one who asks
“What do you want from me?”
Two.
youngling walks the street
unbothered
blank faced
and unsure of what they see
People die
People live
What difference does it make?
Emotions are a liability
that have to be put away
for there are people who need to be saved
so this hardened heart says
“Move on. The dead stay dead.”
Three.
youngling lays on the ground
waiting and quiet
wise yet young
not allowed any fun
responsibilities they have
people counting on them
a whole world to save
though no one, can know about them
but still, the obedient soldier waits
saying
“There is no point in fighting what cannot be changed.”
I am all of them. They find me as I go.
They follow me wherever I am
They are my three ghosts
We listen to every word
We see everything
We hide from the people
In the shadows on the wall
We are the protectors of all
