One calm evening, in the countryside,
I mounted my bike and went for a ride,

On quiet streets, devoid of cars,
Guided by the shining stars,

Past meadows where coyotes bark,
Potato fields and empty parks,

Through forest paths and jungle woods,
City blocks and neighborhoods,

All the land is fast asleep,
Resting for the coming week...

The author's comments:

A few weeks ago, I was biking home from a late-evening event. As I rode along, I passed through many of the scenes and landscapes depicted in this poem. By the time I arrived at home, I had enough inspiration to write a poem about my recent experience. When I wrote the first draft, it was intended only to be read by my family and friends. I never really imagined that I could someday become a published author, but now, thanks to Teen Ink, it's finally possible!
