We were on a dark and windy road heading for our campsite late at night. Me and my brother were in the back of our rented-out Chevy Tahoe. We had stopped at a Dairy Queen around an hour earlier and I was still munching down the monstrosity size blizzard I had gotten there. I was filled with excitement and I couldn’t wait to see my cousins who were already there waiting for are arrival. Finally, we pulled off the main road into a dirt road with a sign that read Gualala ahead.
When we pulled in, I saw my cousins in my peripheral vision and without waiting for my dad to stop the car ran out and greeted them and the first one to meet me was my three-year-old cousin Kai or King Kai as we called him
He motioned to me and yelled “Lwook ats mys forrt.” in his cute toddler voice. Then came all my other cousins and they tackled me in a hug. And then leading me by my arm was Cole.
He vigorously said “I set up the “Man cave”” as he called it. He then proceeded to half drag me to a tent he set up for me and him. After greeting all my cousins, I helped my mom and dad unload the car into their tent since my other family had set it up the day before. I started helping them unload and Cole (always trying to show his strength off) lifted and tried to balance 5 large objects and failed miserably and everything rolled on the ground and we swiftly picked it up before my parents noticed or they would whoop both of us. Slowly but surely, we unloaded the
whole car and had time before the sun fully came to play a road of cousinly tradition WILD GOOSE CHASE!!! Me, Dakota (my other cousin who is very close to me), Cole and Andrew had to explain to Eli who was now eleven years old and now old enough to participate. We had to explain the rules basically there were 5 rules. 1. Don’t go into another person's campsite (we made that rule the hard way) 2. when you get tagged don’t quit unless you have a blood injury and can't go on then the game is paused and we get out the first aid kits, or we must eat. 3. you cannot tag someone off your bike unless they leap of first, fall, or are resting and you surprise them. 4. You can steal other bikes during the game. 5. Never intentionally ram someone (Again learned that the hard way). My brother started out to be it and because the campsite is in California, we cannot bring our bikes and the ones that are family members brought don’t exactly fit that well. As soon as we got on my brother gave us five seconds and then started to barrel toward us, we were going close to 20 miles an hour and Andrew was still gaining on us. At the las second I power drifted my bike into a tree and leaped off into some bushes and ran. I could feel my side was heavily bruised and my left arm was completely cut open and blood was coming out. But that wasn't enough to stop me I ran for a spot where I could hide and jump one of my cousins and steal one of their bikes. About ten minutes later Cole came cruising down the street and breathing hard. When he got right next to me, I jumped on him and threw him off the bike and was surprised it wasn't his bike but Andrews. I then started pedaling and he yelled after me
BA*****.
Later I met up with my cousins and learned Andrew tried to tag Cole but Cole leapt off his bike and Andrew went after him and during that Cole ran back to the bikes knowing Andrew couldn’t pedal that fast on Coles bike and snagged Andrews and rode away then Andrew tagged Eli and Eli tagged my other cousin Dakota who was about 6 weeks younger than me. Cole was routed and Eli was at our hideout. Later we found Cole and we laughed about him calling me a Ba*****. While we were chatting nobody saw Dakota sneak up and tag Cole from behind who tagged me and then I tagged Andrew and all Hell broke loose and after an hour I was bleeding from a lot of places and we went to see my aunt whose a nurse to get her first aid kit. When she saw me and Cole (we both looked like a red mess) she sighed and said it is where it always is which is what she says every camping trip although it's never there. By then it was dark, and the lights turned on and we went to play Ping-Pong and swing on the swing set.
When we got there, we started immediately placing wagers on games as each kid received 20 dollars at the start of the trip. I ended up winning 3 dollars that night and a Twix bar.
Awwwwwwww shoot Cole said in his horrible Southern accent he was working on as he handed me a Washington and a Twix bar.
Then It was Eli’s turn and he handed me a dollar without saying a word. Then Dakota walked up
Welp here your dollar is she whispered with a face of faking distraught but then immediately started laughing and yelled I BEAT YOU. Dakota had won 7 dollars that night and thankfully none of that was my money.
When we started are way back to the campsite, I noticed that Andrew and Dakota scurried along swiftly to the campsite. Curios, me and Cole snuck behind them and followed them they led us to are tent and we hid behind tree’s while they laughed and took apart are tent. As they did this a devilish grin crossed my face and I whispered to Cole “come with me”. So off we went to Andrews tent and started taking down his then Dakota’s. We then scuttled back to find are tent in another campsite and we moved it back with all are stuff which was squished like a pancake inside it. Then when we were done we went to the campfire to see Andrews face smirking up at us and he said
“Like your present” When I smiled back his face went from smug to worried.
I said, “I did, so I gave it back.” When he heard this his mouth went slack as he ran to his tent his feet pounding on the ground every second. He later realized what a mistake he had made because he knew we were out for revenge, but he forgot that his tent was from the 80s and used strings to hold it up and a singular pole unlike are stylish pop up tent. Then Dakota hearing this rushed to her tent and was met with the same fate although hers was a pop-up tent, so it didn’t take long to fix. But my brother learned his lesson after 2 HOURS fixing his tent. Later me and Cole went to play with our younger cousins who were 3 and 4.
“AWW isss thes tickelss mwonstar” they yelled and tried to scramble away.
“AHHH” I replied and chased them both into the next campsite and the next until I got them to come back with twickle tourture as they called it.
After that me and Cole went to bed and slept soundly even though we had no dinner. Halfway through the night we woke up to something scratching on the tent. I knew it was my uncle and this was the perfect time to scare him because he thought we were still asleep and was trying to scare us by thinking it was a bear. I slowly got out of my sleeping bag and crept to the tent wall where I could see the outline of his hand and at once I reached out my hand and yelled “AHHHH” to try and scare him, and it did. He immediately jumped back and yelped then said, “you got me” and walked away. The rest of that night I slept soundly and couldn’t wait for tomorrow.
