If you have been on any social media platform in the last six months, you have heard of the infamous Yellowstone, and if you have not, well then, you must be living under a rock. “Yellowstone” by Taylor Sheridan is a series about the Dutton family who have kept a ranch in their family for the last century. The family has had to overcome many challenges all in order to try to keep their ranch and if you know anything about farm and ranch ground, everyone is always trying to take your ground.

As someone who grew up on a farm and in agriculture, I took great interest in watching Yellowstone. This show keeps you hooked. Besides learning about the cowboy way of life, viewers get a better understanding of the struggles and hardships of each character. My favorite character of the show is Beth Dutton. She is someone who doesn’t care what anyone else thinks and doesn’t take anything from anyone. If there is an issue on the ranch, Beth will take care of whatever it is. What I like about Beth is she does not let anyone walk all over her and is loyal to the ranch. Beth is willing to solve the problem and find ways to keep it in the Dutton Family.

One of my favorite aspects of Yellowstone is the detail the writers and producers give to the show. I enjoy how realistic it seems. The reality of getting up early to move cattle and working late into the night shows what “cowboying” is like. Are some issues on the ranch exaggerated, probably, but that is how the viewers keep watching and wanting to come back. Yellowstone has a good plot and as someone in agriculture, I’m glad it shows the good and bad of ranch life, which is important to show the viewers who have never been to a farm or ranch before.

I just want to say I LOVE the prequels of Yellowstone. The small details of the Dutton Family portrayed in both 1883 and 1923 are so important to Yellowstone and the family history. There are a lot of family members to keep track of but if the viewer stops and takes the family members in, it all makes sense. I am watching 1923 right now and I think it is better than 1883. I enjoy how they cover different points of view in the Dutton family because it gives good historical context to the roaring 20s era. I have thoroughly enjoyed watching the Yellowstone series and will plan to keep watching the Dutton Family work to keep the Yellowstone Ranch.
