Hummin'... MAG
Xscape - "Hummin' ..."
"Hummin' Comin' at 'Cha" is A+ material from the four female-member group, Xscape from Atlanta, founded by Jermaine Dupri (of Kris Kross). This debut album is one you must keep within arm's reach.
Xscape has sounds that are reminiscent of SWV but much different. Their look: T=tough. Their apparel includes items such as U.S. Navy overalls, combat boots, and dogtags. If you happen to see the album cover, you will see no smiles, just four serious tough-looking young women. And can they sing.
The album is filled with a mixture of soft, serious ballads such as "Understanding" and the delightful a cappella "Tonight," which proves their singing ability and how Shai would sound if they were women. The rest of the album is filled with catchy, upbeat dance tunes such as "With You" and "Love on my Mind" which explain their yearning for commitment, love, and affection.
There are two versions of their smash hit, "Just Kickin' It" which both start and end the album. The beat of the remix is provided by the Staple Singers' "Let's Do It Again."
Xscape definitely has potential to stand out in the ever-running list of female groups on the rise now, and in the future. .
