"Faces" was Mac Millers follow up mixtape to his album "Watching Movies With The Sound Off". It was originally released for free download on May 11, 2014. It ended up getting released on all platforms on October 15, 2021 post humously. The album opens up with the track "Inside Outside". This sets the tone for the album with the first line being "I should've died already". He is reflecting on his substance abuse problem throughout this album and most songs are dark in nature. He is always isolating himself from the outside world as stated at the end where he says "On the inside I'm outside all the time". The next track takes a more upbeat turn with "Here We Go" which has Mac celebrating his success. "Friends" is a more introspective song where there are parts about his ever-worsening substance abuse. The songs "Angel Dust", "Malibu", "Polo Jeans", "Happy Birthday", "Funeral", "Diablo", "Ave Maria", "San Fransisco", "Insomniak", "Rain", "Apparition", "Grand Finale", and "Yeah - bonus" all share the same depressing substance abuse theme that has been seen throughout the album so far. It shows the darkest parts of fame and how negatively it can affect one. "Wedding" and "Thumbalina" both show different relationships that Mac either lived through or made up. "Wedding" is more about a toxic relationship where both people are the problem while "Thumbalina" is a song about lust. This album is one of the most open and honest albums ever and it really makes it a special listening experience.
