I have never been the type of person to get really into an artist, unlike my best friend who will find an artist and deep dive into their songs. One night I was at her house and we were listening to music when all of the sudden she tells me to stop what I'm doing and listen to this amazing new album from an artist she likes. I did, thinking it wouldn't be as great as she said but that album was truly amazing. That album is called ¨Pebblebrain¨ by Lovejoy, and I personally think it's a work of art. There are 7 great songs but, I have four favorites: ¨Concrete¨, ¨Model buses¨, ¨Perfume¨, and ¨Oh Yeah, You Gonna Cry?¨

First off, “Concrete” starts with an amazing drum solo then adds the guitar. After that, the tempo speeds up a bit and it is so easy to start dancing to. No matter how sad the lyrics are, Lovejoy always sticks to the same vibe. The lyrics are so relatable, even if you've never been through heartbreak. The words can be applied to so many situations other than a breakup. My personal favorite is ¨Youre spitting spite as fast as saliva¨ This song has something relatable for almost anyone. It can either be about a past partner or an ex-best friend.

Speaking of relatable songs, “Model Buses” is absolutely an example of this. The music is something you can always jam out to. It is so upbeat, nevertheless, the lyrics are deeper than the music. A good example of this is ¨You’re a man of few needs, but the sleep thoughts are deep¨ This song talks about people not wanting to grow up even when you need to. It's about being in denial about the future and not wanting to face reality.

Most of their songs will start chill and get more chaotic and emotional later and “Perfume” is no exception of that. It starts off as something you could relax but as the drum begins to kick in, well there's no way you're falling asleep to that. The lyrics are different from “Concrete” because this is very specific to heartbreak. It holds so much emotion and just a little bit of resentment. A line that represents this is in the chorus “I can still smell her perfume. Did it rub off on you?” It shows that he misses her and feels like she is still there while holding this underlying resentment for her new boyfriend.

Although all of the songs on this album are absolutely amazing, my personal favorite is ¨Oh Yeah, You Gonna Cry?¨. It is very taunting and just the littlest bit condescending. ¨You need to calm down. Does she still think of me? Say my name in her sleep? I thought you knew her better than me¨ Is a great example of this. He is taunting the new boyfriend by pretty much asking “Are you sure she doesn't still love me?”

“Concrete”, “Model Buses”, “Perfume”, and “Oh Yeah, You Gonna Cry?” Are all amazing songs. In conclusion, they make the work of art that is Lovejoy's album “Pebblebrain”. This album is so amazing and relatable. I am so grateful that my best friend showed me this album. Lovejoy’s music is pretty unique with the Next to a perfect blend of upbeat music along with more emotional lyrics. I am so glad my best friend forced me to listen to this album. I don't know what I would do without it.
